Mindful photography
In a few weeks’ time, I will be co-leading a workshop on mindful photography. This is using the camera, to slow down, take in the world, come to stillness. One doesn’t even need a camera – one practice is to make a square frame with one’s fingers and look at the world through this “viewfinder”.
I am not the only person who remarks on the speed and multi-tasking demanded of daily life in these times. Slowing down, even for ten minutes, brings a great boon. Slowing down and focussing on the light on the raindrop, on the shadows cast by a low sun, on the contrast between golden sunlight and the blue shadows, brings us back to the real world, the world in which we live, of objects and nature and boundaries and edges. Practising this mindfulness can be an antidote to rushing or multiple demands. Try it!
